But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel. Exodus 1:12
For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. Leviticus 23:29
And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favor in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?

Deuteronomy 26:6-9
