Fast and Pray

You should try to fast and pray.

  • Prayer opens communication between you and the Father. It focuses your dependence on him and creates an open line for Him to respond while you're listening. There is nothing too "unusual" to pray about. Often times I simply tell God all that is happening in my life, and tell Him what I think about it. Prayer is about open communication -- both speaking and listening.

  Words of Wisdom

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.   Nehemiah 1:4-6

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.   Psalm 35:13

And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.   Daniel 9:3-6

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.   Matthew 17:21

But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.   Luke 5:33-35

And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.   Acts 10:30, 31

Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.   1 Corinthians 7:5

  Comments and Quotes

1. There was an orthodox Jewish Rabbi who would only say his prayers in the Hebrew language. He felt that Hebrew was God's original language.

2. There was a devout Roman Catholic grandmother who would kneel down and say her prayers in the Latin language. She felt that Latin was a universal language that God would understand.

3. There was a Pentecostal-Charismatic Christian who would only "Pray in Tongues" while standing up. He felt that he was using the "language of angels" and that God would understand.

4. There was a Baptist pastor who would preach and pray with a British accent using King James style old British English. He would only read from the 1611 KJV Bible, and felt that was the best way.

When I spoke to these people on the street, they all spoke perfect American English and I understood what they were saying.

I may not always understand or agree with other people's traditions, rituals, style of worship, and methods of prayer. Christianity is a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Prayer is simply talking to God and listening to him for the answers. You need to ask God to give you wisdom, meet your needs, and help you to be all that he created you to be. - Ron Rooks - 264
