A hurricane is a powerful cyclone-that forms over the tropical oceans. Hurricanes occur toward the end of summer, when low-pressure areas form over the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. The low-pressure area causes cool air to move which, in return, causes the air mass to begin spinning. The system begins to spin faster as more air is drawn in. The mixture of rising and spinning air forms a doughnut-shaped wall of strong winds and rain-clouds. A hurricane's winds causes the most destruction.
Hurricanes are found in the tropics during the summer and into autumn. They are most common near a low-lying coast on low latitudes. Also, they are commonly present in the Western Atlantic, North Pacific, and the Western South Pacific Oceans. - Michelle Rooks - 231

A tornado is a ferociously rotating column of air stretching from the base of a cumulonimbus cloud to the earth's surface. They are caused when a cloud that is the right size quickly precipitates which releases heat. This caused it to rise, creating a vacuum under it. The vortex is created from the air rushing under it. The most dangerous part of a tornado is the violent winds and the debris that goes to flight during one. Tornados have been spotted on every continent but Antarctica; however, most occur in the U.S. The most prominent time for tornados is from April 26 through June 9. Violent winds and debris slamming into buildings cause most structural damage. - Michelle Rooks - 233

A typhoon is a tropical cyclone very similar to a hurricane. However, it is formed over the Western Pacific and is more intense. They occur when the energy released by the condensation of moisture in rising air causes a positive feedback loop over warm ocean waters. A typhoon starts near the equator and moves westward gaining strength and size. A storm surge will often be present with a typhoon. These cyclones have very strong, destructive winds that frequently reach 150 mph. These winds cause the most damage. - Michelle Rooks - 232
